With a little work you can "Gussy Up" your character markers,
These four of eight were originally made to reflect the "Party Roles" of D&D 4th edition, Left to right being Tank, Controller, Striker, and Support. Of course the designs and colors make each one so unique that any player can choose one to be his marker.
